A practical guide to finding a career you love

Updated: Aug 26, 2022

Hi there!

Seems like the great resignation is extending to retirees. In March, the labor force participation rate declined by almost 1% (meaning even less people are not actively in the labor force). This time it was driven by an increase in retirements among older workers. What does this mean for you? Well, in short, more opportunity. Older workers generally hold higher positions with greater responsibility and higher compensation. Companies are already having a hard time filling these roles and increasingly will be willing to fill these roles with younger workers who show promise. Don’t think this is just a slam dunk though. Make sure you’re investing in yourself and your skills so you’re up to the task. This is a constant, never ending process. Keep grindin’.

From Around the Web

Retirements accounted for the greatest drop in labor force participation in March, further aggravating an already tight labor market, according to an analysis released Thursday by global data firm Morning Consult.

When the pandemic struck in 2020, entire industries were decimated overnight, leaving workers to survive on unemployment benefits. But for some, the Covid-19 crisis presented an opportunity to change course; indeed, the post-lockdown job market faces a shortage of workers even as it recovers.
